Yasek Manzano Silva

Yasek Manzano Silva is a Cuban trumpet player and composer who was born in 1980 in Marianao. He has performed with major figures like Celia Cruz, Los Van Van, Irakere, Bobby Carcassés and the British band Simply Red.

Biography

Yasek Manzano Silva started studying music at the Alejandro Garcia Caturla Conservatory in Marianao before entering the Amadeo Roldán Conservatory in 1995 in Havana. He started being very interested in jazz music and, around 12 years old, he reproduced the music he heard on his parents' LPs.

He attended the Havana School of Arts and Music. In 1995, he started to perform regularly at La Zorra Y El Cuervo, a club in Havana. Later, he traveled to New York, was invited to attend a scholarship at the Juilliard School of Music. In 1997, Roy Hargrove, an American jazz trumpeter gave him his first trumpet and Silva started to play in various jam sessions in the city.

Back in Cuba in 2003, Silva started his professional career by forming his own group and recording his first album in collaboration with Roberto Martínez.

Silva has often been invited abroad to countries like the United States, France, United Kingdom, Switzerland, Italy, or Barbados in order to perform with other formations.
