Yang first entered the entertainment industry during the 1980s after SBC's drama training course. After leaving MediaCorp she went into business and operated a hair salon with her sister.[1]

Yang married fellow actor Li Nanxing in 1994 after co-starring with him in several drama series. They divorced in 2004 citing irreconcilable personality differences. Both have yet to remarry and they have no children from the marriage.[2]
