Yang Gang (simplified Chinese: 杨刚; traditional Chinese: 楊剛; pinyin: Yáng Gāng; born January 1953) is a former Chinese politician who served in important posts in Xinjiang, a vast region in far-western China. Between 2010 and 2013 Yang served as the Deputy Director of the General Administration of Quality Supervision, Inspection and Quarantine (AQSIQ). Between 1999 and 2010, Yang was an important regional official in Xinjiang, serving first as the Communist Party Secretary of Urumqi and then Deputy Secretary of the Xinjiang regional Party Committee. Yang was a member of the 11th National People's Congress and an Alternate Member of 16th and 17th Central Committee of the Communist Party of China.[1][2][3] Yang was placed under investigation by the party's anti-corruption body in December 2013.[4]

Biography

Yang was born in Gaocheng, Hebei in January 1953.

During the Cultural Revolution, he worked in the Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps.

Yang entered Xinjiang University in September 1978, majoring in politics, where he graduated in August 1982. After graduation, he worked in Xinjiang. Yang was educated in Central Party School of the Communist Party of China from September 1986 to July 1989.

In November 1999 he was promoted to become the Party Secretary of Urumqi, capital of Xinjiang, and held the position until November 2006.

In November 2006, he was appointed the Vice-Secretary of the CPC Xinjiang Committee, he remained in that position until December 2010, when he was transferred to Beijing and appointed the Vice-Chairman of National Administration of Quality and Technical Supervision.

In December 2013, Yang was being investigated by the Central Commission for Discipline Inspection of the Communist Party of China for "serious violations of laws and regulations".[1][2][3][4] On December 30, Yang was dismissed from his position for corruption.[1][2][3][4][5]
