Llandel Veguilla Malavé (born January 14, 1977 in Cayey, Puerto Rico), better known by his stage name Yandel, is a Puerto Rican reggaeton musician, songwriter and record producer, who emerged in the music scene in 1995.[2] He is best known as a member of the reggaeton duo Wisin & Yandel. He released his first solo album Quien Contra Mí in September 2003, and his second solo studio album, De Líder a Leyenda was released in November 2013, which was certified Gold (Latin) by the RIAA in 2014.[3]

Early life and family

Llandel Veguilla Malavé was born on January 14, 1977, in Cayey, Puerto Rico,[4] the son of Julio Veguilla and Lucy Malavé. Veguilla has two siblings, including younger brother Gadiel,[1] who is also a singer, and sister Linnette.[5] Before he became a singer, Yandel worked as a barber in his hometown.[6]

In July 2004,[7] Veguilla married his long-time girlfriend,[8] Edneris Espada Figueroa[7] and the couple has two children; Adrián Yandel Veguilla, born 25 January 2002 and Dereck Adrián Veguilla, born 27 May 2004.[9]

Music career

Yandel met Wisin in school.[10] They began performing as a duó in 1998,[2] (Yandel then billing himself as "Llandel") and made their album debut in 2000 with Los Reyes del Nuevo Milenio. They later made the jump to a major label in 2003 with Mi Vida... My Life, their first for Universal subsidiary Machete Music. Pa'l Mundo then catapulted them to mainstream success in 2005. Subsequently, Wisin & Yandel established their own label, WY Records, and presented an affiliate group, Los Vaqueros.[11] In November 2013, after the duó's Líderes tour, the dúo went into hiatus, but although rumors saying their split was because of differences between them, Yandel denied those rumors and confirmed they're not disbanded.[12]
