The Yamaha MT-07 (FZ-07 in North America) is a Yamaha sport bike motorcycle with a 689 cc (42.0 cu in) inline twin engine. It features a compact tubular backbone frame,[4] and is available with an optional ABS system.

Design and Development

The MT-07 is an affordable, lightweight mid-range sportsbike. Released just after the MT-09, the MT-07 was designed to "Make the intuitive side of riding more fun" - Yamaha Product Planning manager Oliver Grill explained "The bike is more casual, feels cool also at lower speeds. Yet any speed, any gear, if you open up the throttle you will immediately feel the power delivery and enjoy the sound".[5]

The rear shock absorber is placed horizontally within the subframe, allowing for a shorter wheelbase than would otherwise be possible, and to lower the centre of gravity, allowing for better handling. Many components on the motorcycle are designed to reduce weight and keep the centre of gravity low, including the use of a digital LED instrument panel and lightweight plastic fairing on the fuel tank.

270 degree twin Engine

The inline twin engine's crankshaft is designed with a 270 degree offset. The two cylinders in the engine fire at an irregular interval, in order to harmonize the inertia forces inside the engine, resulting in a more immediate response and feeling of "Torquiness" for the rider.[5]

Reception

The MT-07 received very positive reviews from Motorcycling organisations and Magazines. The Telegraph awarded the bike five out of five stars, praising the engine, handling, value for money and overall riding experience, although criticising the front brake, calling it "[A]dequate but less powerful than is suggested by its superbike-style specification of twin discs and four-piston Monobloc calipers".[1] MCN awarded five stars also, praising the light weight and engine response, although noting that "at high speed it will start to get breathless".[6]
