The Yamaha FZ-16 and FZ-S are motorcycles manufactured by India Yamaha Motor. Inspired by the naked bike concept, the FZ-16 is modeled after its more popular counterpart the FZ1 with scaled down engine capacity to 153 cc more suited to the Indian and its Asian market's roads.. It is a very popular in Sri Lankan market as well. The FZ-16 uses 140/60 size rear radial tubeless tyre. It won Bike of the Year Award from UTVi/Autocar, Zigwheels, and Business Standard Motoring, and the Viewers Choice award at UTVi & Autocar India Awards 2009.

Yamaha Motors India has also launched the Yamaha FZ-S another variant of the FZ-16, with a front visor.[2] It was released in March 2009, and is marketed in India.

Global markets

Some models are imported from India to Japan (its mother company´s location). Japanese tuners like Daytona produce special parts for it.

Yamaha Motor Kencana Indonesia also launched the FZ-16 under the name Yamaha Byson with few specification changes.

The Yamaha FZ16 is also manufactured in Colombia and Argentina, it is exported to the rest of Latin America with extraordinary success.FZ16 was the best selling bike below 200cc at great performance.[3] In Chile and Argentina it is reportedly difficult to acquire one directly due to its attractive sporty look and high demand. In Argentina Yamaha dealers are said to charge up to 40% price increases due to scarcity. Motomel (an Argentine motorcycle company) has deliberately copied the design of the model to "create" its Motomel Sirius 200 with a 200 cc displacement.[4]
