Yakō Station (矢向駅 Yakō-eki) is a railway station operated by JR East's Nambu Line located in Tsurumi Ward of Yokohama, Kanagawa, Japan. It is 2.6 kilometers from the terminus of the Nambu Line at Kawasaki Station.

History

Yakō Station opened as a station on the Nambu Railway on March 9, 1927. A spur line to Kawasaki-Gashi Freight Terminal opened at the same time. The Nambu Railway was nationalized on April 1, 1944 becoming part of the Japanese Government Railway (JGR) system, which became the Japanese National Railways (JNR) from 1949. Freight services on the spur line were discontinued on May 25, 1972. Along with privatization and division of JNR, JR East started operating the station on April 1, 1987.

The station has a yard, which was originally the main depot of the Nambu Line until Nakahara Depot near Musashi-Nakahara Station was opened in 1960.

The station building was burnt down during the bombing in 1945 and was later rebuilt.[1] The station building appeared in the 1951 film Meshi is the same as the present one.
