The YYCIX Internet Exchange Community Ltd (YYCIX) is an Internet exchange point situated at DataHive in Calgary, Alberta, Canada. It is the first IXP in Alberta. It allows traffic between members to stay within the Canadian jurisdiction, optimizing the performance and economy of traffic flows, while limiting the potential for extra-legal surveillance.[3] [4] [5] The YYCIX follows IXP best-practices, in that it is neutral and independent, has no mandatory fees, and is supported entirely through voluntary donations. The YYCIX is incorporated as a Canadian tax-exempt non-profit corporation. [6]

Technology

The YYCIX is currently running on a Cisco Catalyst 4900M ethernet switch, supporting speeds of 10Mbit/s/100Mbit/s on copper, or 1Gbit/s/10Gbit/s on copper or fiber. The YYCIX provides NTP and an optional BGP route reflector for multilateral peering.[7]

Both IPv4 and IPv6 peering is possible and encouraged at the YYCIX.

Availability

YYCIX has signed a Memorandum of Understanding which provides no-cost cross-connects to members inside its data center. [8]
