Xerces Society

Xerces blue

Founded by Robert Pyle ,[1] The Xerces Society is a non-profit environmental organization that focuses on the conservation of invertebrates which are considered by some to be essential to biological diversity. The name is in honor of the extinct California butterfly, Xerces Blue. It engages in activities that include: advocating for invertebrates and their habitats, petitioning for the designation of endangered status for at least one species, [2] and education projects. It works with the USDA, scientists, land managers, educators, and citizens on conservation. Programs focus on endangered species, native pollinators, and watershed health.[3]

Contributions are solicited to fund programs that support of conservation efforts. Funds received cover the cost of its programs. [4]

Like most non-profits, Some donations are directed toward fundraising and salaries. [5]
