Xavier Serbiá (born July 24, 1968) is a financial commentator, syndicated columnist, and news anchor of CNN Dinero at CNN en Español.[1][2][3] Serbiá is also a former member of the boy band Menudo.

Early years

Serbiá, born in Santurce, Puerto Rico, joined Menudo in 1980 and participated with Menudo in "Menudo:La Pelicula", "Una aventura llamada Menudo" and a soap opera. Serbia was known as "El rubio de oro" (The Golden Blond), ("The Golden Boy") or "Xavier de Menudo" (Menudo's Xavier). He was replaced by Ray Reyes in Menudo in 1983, and later on, went to try a solo career.

During a Menudo concert in Caracas, Serbia was grabbed by a group of fans and taken off-stage; he almost immediately was helped by security and able to climb back to the stage.[4]

In 1986, Serbiá participated in Puerto Rican television's comedy series La pensión de Doña Tere. In 1987, he joined fellow former Menudos René Farrait and Johnny Lozada in a group named Proyecto M (in which he would also be replaced by Reyes upon his departure). In 1989, he hosted a Spanish version of Remote Control for Puerto Rico called Control Remoto. He was offered to join some of the ex Menudos in 1998 for a comeback tour named El Reencuentro, but he declined.

Writer

Serbiá is the best-selling author of “Four Steps to Wealth”. published by Santillana. Serbia is the featured writer on Yahoo! Finance in Spanish in his weekly very popular weekly “Conexión Dinero” series and blogs, Serbia is also a Personal Financial Editor for the "Money Matters" section of "Siempre Mujer" magazine, published by Meredith Corporation.

Serbiá's columns are published by "El Diario La Prensa de Nueva York", "El Nuevo Día Puerto Rico", "Ser Padres". To the International Center for Journalists Xavier Serbiá was the instructor in online courses in Spanish on covering personal finance for Hispanic journalists and U.S. journalists covering finance issues.

In 2003, Serbiá was elected by NBC-Telemundo and Ford, to host the business series "El camino al triunfo" where he performed as writer, advisor and host. He also appeared as a commentator on such Telemundo Network shows as “Noticiero Nacional Telemundo’,“Noticiero 47 NY”, “Esta Mañana” and “América en Vivo”, “Maria Elvira Live” among others.

Serbiá has a Master’s Degree in Financial Economics from Trinity College in Connecticut. He completed an MBA with a concentration in Finance and also passed Level I of the CFA exam.
