XHPOP-FM, better known as Radio Disney 99.3, is a radio station in Mexico City that broadcasts pop, rock music and dance music. The station is owned by Grupo ACIR and features programs from Radio Disney.
History
99.3 FM (previously known as Digital 99.3) used to broadcast pop music only (hence its call sign of POP). It began broadcasting in 1977, adopting that name in November 1988, and troughout its existence it basically focused on a Top 40 format, airing music both in English and Spanish. Its more important programs were the morning show Huevos and the call-in show Friends Connection, hosted by Sofía Sánchez Navarro, who left the station in 2009 and thus both programs were cancelled.
Changes in 2013
Digital 99.3 left the air unexpectedly in August 2013. The name was dropped, with the radio station adopting the name "99.3 FM" and keeping the music but dropping the presenters. This sparked speculation about a format change, with Radio Disney as the main replacement option.[2] This rumors were confirmed, when it was announced that from October 9, XHPOP-FM will broadcast a local Mexican version of Radio Disney Latin America.[3][4]
