Worldwide Cancer Research, who until July 2014 were called the Association for International Cancer Research (AICR), is a cancer research charity based in the United Kingdom.[1] It is the leading charity that funds cancer research anywhere in the world.
Founded in 1979, Worldwide Cancer Research has awarded over £185 million in research grants in 34 different countries. It supports early-stage research into the causes, mechanisms, diagnosis, treatment and prevention of cancer by awarding research grants. In the year ending September 2014, Worldwide Cancer Research awarded approximately £9 million in cancer research grants.
Worldwide Cancer Research has a number of celebrity ambassadors including David Tennant, Peter Capaldi, Lorraine Kelly and the Proclaimers.Worldwide Cancer Research’s work is almost entirely funded by the public. It raises money through donations, legacies, events and corporate partnerships.
Worldwide Cancer Research is a member of the UK's National Cancer Research Institute. They currently have 165 different projects underway.[2]
The head office is in St Andrews, Scotland and its charitable registration is at the Office of the Scottish Charity Regulator.
