World Extreme Skiing Championship

The World Extreme Skiing Championship (WESC) was an extreme skiing competition held from 1991 to 2000 in Valdez, Alaska.[1]

The WESC competition revolutionized the ski industry by promoting and using extreme mountain terrain for competition. The first year had 37 contestants from an international field.

WESC 1993 had its first death in competition: Wilbur Madsen.

WESC has been identified as the precursor and model for the X Games.
