Working Dog Winery is a winery in East Windsor Township and Robbinsville Township in Mercer County, New Jersey.[2][3] The vineyard was first planted in 2001, and opened to the public in 2003.[4][5] The winery was originally known as "Silver Decoy Winery," but the name was changed in 2013 because a wine with a similar brand name is produced in California.[6][7] Working Dog has 16 acres of grapes under cultivation, and produces 3,500 cases of wine per year.[2][8] The winery is named for three dogs that live at the vineyard, and the winery frequently sponsors dog-themed fundraising events.[6]

Wines

Sign at the entrance

Working Dog Winery produces wine from Cabernet Franc, Chambourcin, Chardonnay, Marechal Foch, Merlot, Pinot gris, Riesling, Sangiovese, Syrah, Traminette, and Viognier grapes. Working Dog also makes fruit wines from blueberries.[8][9] The winery was a participant at the Judgment of Princeton, a wine tasting organized by the American Association of Wine Economists that compared New Jersey wines to premium French vintages.[10][11] Working Dog is not located in one of New Jersey's three viticultural areas.[8]

Licensing and associations

Working Dog has a plenary winery license from the New Jersey Division of Alcoholic Beverage Control, which allows it to produce an unrestricted amount of wine, operate up to 15 off-premises sales rooms, and ship up to 12 cases per year to consumers in-state or out-of-state.[12][13] The winery is a member of the Garden State Wine Growers Association.[14]
