Wind Creek State Park is an Alabama state park located 7 miles (11 km) south of Alexander City. The park occupies 1,445 acres (585 ha) that includes(missing shoreline linear measurement) shoreline along the northern portion of Lake Martin, a 41,000-acre (17,000 ha) clear-water reservoir on the Tallapoosa River.[2] Wind Creek offers camping, swimming, boating, fishing, picnicking, playgrounds, and trails for hiking and equestrian use.
Activities and amenities
- Camping: Wind Creek lays claim to managing the largest state-owned campground in the United States,[3] with over 600 camping sites, nearly one-third of which are on the water. There are also seven cabins available year around.
- Fishing: The park hosts fishing competitions such as the American Bass Angler Association Fishing Tournament and Georgia Glenn AT&T Pioneer Fishing Tournament.
- Events: Other events include Indian festivals and skiing/wake-boarding shows.
- Playgrounds and activities: The park contains six playgrounds, a lighthouse and other sights. Children's activities, such as crafts, are sometimes available.
- Geocaching: There are a number of geocaches around Wind Creek on Lake Martin.
- Hiking and biking: Two hiking trails total 5 miles (8.0 km) in length.[4]
- Cliff jumping: Chimney Rock is about 20 minutes south of Wind Creek and is only accessible by boat. There are many other places to cliff jump within 30 minutes of Wind Creek.

- Cheaha State Park: The park—nearly 60 miles north—surrounds the highest point in Alabama and offers hiking trails, geocaching spots, and scenery.
- Horseshoe Bend National Military Park: Horseshoe Bend—20 miles northeast—is rich in the heritage of the Creek Indians. It was the site of the Battle of Horseshoe Bend which effectively ended the Creek War.
- Children's Harbor: The campus located 12 miles (19 km) south of Wind Creek is built around a New England seaside village motif and features the Plymouth Lighthouse and an early American church, Children's Chapel.[5]
- Lake Martin Amphitheater: The amphitheater is home to the Alex City Jazz Fest, the Russell Family Fourth of July fireworks show and other events.
