William Wheeler (Wisconsin)

William A. Wheeler (October 3, 1814- May 4, 1881) was a mill-wright and politician.

Born in Fairfield County, Connecticut, he moved to Madison, Wisconsin Territory. He built the saw and gist mills in Dane County, Wisconsin. He served in the Wisconsin Territorial Legislature in 1847 and then the second Wisconsin Constitutional Convention of 1847-1848. He served as county treasurer for Dane County in 1854. During the American Civil War, he served in the commissary department and was commissioned a captain and then major. He died in Middleton, Wisconsin.[1]
