William Oke
William Austin Oke (December 14, 1857[1] – 1923) was a printer and politician in Newfoundland. He represented Harbour Grace in the Newfoundland House of Assembly from 1897 to 1908 as a Liberal.[2]
The son of Edward Oke, a lighthouse keeper, he was born in Harbour Grace and was educated there. His father drowned when Oke was just six. He apprenticed as a printer with the Harbour Grace Standard. Around 1900, he became editor and co-owner with John Munn of the Standard.[2] In 1890, Oke married Sophia Snow.[1]
From 1909 until his death in 1923, he served as district court judge at Harbour Grace. Oke was also president of the Sons of England society at Harbour Grace and a member of the local Masons.[2]
