William Lowther "Mudwall" Jackson Jr. (born February 3, 1825 in Clarksburg, Virginia – died March 26, 1890 in Louisville, Kentucky[1]) was the third Lieutenant Governor of Virginia from 1857 until 1860. After the outbreak of the American Civil War, he joined the Confederate Army as a colonel and served on the staff of General Stonewall Jackson (his second cousin). He was promoted to brigadier general in 1864, and fled to Mexico following the war's end. He later moved to Kentucky where he became a judge.[2]
