William L. Utley

William L. Utley (July 10, 1814 - March 4, 1887)[1] was an American portrait artist, hotel keeper, politician, and newspaper editor from Racine, Wisconsin who was the commanding officer of the 22nd Wisconsin Volunteer Infantry (the "Abolition Regiment") during the American Civil War. Born in Monson, Massachusetts, he served as Adjutant General of Wisconsin, as well as being a member of the Wisconsin State Assembly in 1851-1852 and the Wisconsin State Senate in 1861-1862.[2]
