William Earl "Bill" Troutt (born June 13, 1949) has served as the 19th president of Rhodes College in Memphis, Tennessee since 1999. From 1982 to 1999, he served as the President of Belmont University in Nashville, Tennessee.[1]

Biography

William Troutt graduated from Union University, where he was a member of Lambda Chi Alpha fraternity. He received an M.A. from the University of Louisville, and a Ph.D. degree from Vanderbilt University.

He served as president of Belmont University from 1982 to 1999. He was installed as president of Rhodes College on March 30, 1999 and inaugurated on April 14, 2000.

He has chaired the National Commission on the Cost of Higher Education, which served as a guide to the Higher Education Reauthorization Act of 1998. Troutt is currently Chairman of the American Council on Education and is a former Chairman of the National Association of Independent Colleges and Universities.

He has been published in The Peabody Journal of Education, The Journal of Higher Education, and New Directions for Institutional Research.[2]
