Will Smith (born 3 July 1992) is an Indigenous Australian professional rugby league footballer for the Penrith Panthers of the National Rugby League. He primarily plays five-eighth and halfback, but can also fill in at centre and fullback.

Background

Born in Newcastle, New South Wales, Smith played his junior football for the Western Suburbs Rosellas and Dubbo Westside Rabbits before being signed by the Newcastle Knights. As a youngster, he played for the Under 16s Aboriginal Indigenous team.

Playing career

From 2010 to 2012, Smith played for the Newcastle Knights' NYC team.^[2]

In May 2012, Smith re-signed with the Knights on 1-year contract.^[3]

In 2013, Smith moved on to the Knights' New South Wales Cup team.

On 25 June 2013, Smith signed a 2-year contract with the Penrith Panthers starting in 2014.^[4]

In Round 21 of the 2014 NRL season, Smith made his NRL debut for the Panthers against the Canterbury-Bankstown Bulldogs.^[5]

On 21 September 2014, Smith was named at five-eighth in the 2014 New South Wales Cup Team of the Year.^[6]
