Wialon is a web-based GPS tracking software platform with some fleet management features, developed by a Belarusian company Gurtam. Wialon is available for both Linux and Windows operating systems. In 2015 more than 800 different types of GPS devices are compatible with Wialon Local and Wialon Hosting. They include personal GPS trackers, Automobile Vehicle Locators, and specific software installed on the pocket PC and cell phones with GPS function.[2]
Wialon was introduced internationally in 2010 at CeBIT computer expo.[3][4] Before that Wialon GPS tracking software was mainly used in Post-Soviet states. According to Gurtam website, there are about 700 GPS tracking services worldwide who have already implemented Wialon GPS tracking platform.[5]
History
Gurtam was founded in 2002 by a group of developers who worked on the AtlantSatellite complex tracking system engineered for Minsk office of Atlant-M International Automobile Holding. Since then the company has been mainly engaged in the development of GPS-based tracking and fleet management systems. The company's expertise in creating GPS tracking software solutions is based on the experience gained through the cooperation with different businesses and organizations. For example, in August 2009 Gurtam signed mutually beneficial agreement with Oracle, being the international top industry leader. Since that moment Gurtam has been the member of Oracle PartnerNetwork.[6]
Wialon data center
Physically, Wialon Data Center is represented by more than 100 servers, located in the European Union and Russia. Software as a service versions, Wialon Hosting and Wialon Corporate, are installed there. In early 2015 Wialon data center have reached the number of more than 650 000 registered tracking devices.[7] Wialon data center processes 80 to 200 GPS messages per second.
The basis of the Data Center is formed by the cloud technology of distributed data storage and processing, which ensures high-speed and uninterrupted operation with huge amount of information. In 2015 Gurtam launched Wialon Network Operations Center — a combined resource for clients to get a complete set of data on updates, maintenance works, and other important events, including downtimes, on Wialon Hosting.
