Whitewater Valley Conference
The Whitewater Valley Conference was an IHSAA-sanctioned conference based in Fayette, Franklin, Union, and later Henry and Wayne counties in East Central Indiana. The conference was founded in 1940 with eight schools from Fayette, Franklin, and Union Counties, adding two more Franklin County schools to reach 10 members in the early 1940s. [1] The conference's last season was in 1966-67,[2] as the consolidation wave of the 1950s and 60s would leave the conference with four schools and no suitable replacements in the area. Three of the four schools would fall to consolidation themselves soon thereafter. Straughn would become part of Tri in 1968, College Corner would join with Short in Liberty to form Union County in 1972, while Whitewater Township merged into Brookville in 1974. Laurel struggled on as an independent for two decades, eventually consolidating with Brookville to form Franklin County High School in 1989.
