White Knoll High School is a public high school in Lexington, South Carolina that provides education for ninth through twelfth grades, serving communities of West Columbia and Lexington, South Carolina. The school's mascot is the Timberwolf and their main rival is Lexington High School.

Athletics

The school offers a number of sports including cheerleading, cross country and track, football, swimming, volleyball, basketball, wrestling, golf, bowling, lacrosse, soccer, tennis and softball.[2]

Baseball- The White Knoll Baseball team won the school's first ever team state championship in the spring of 2010 by winning the Class AAAA State Championship game.[3][4]

Marching Band- The White Knoll Marching Band won the 2010 South Carolina Band Director's Class AAAA State Marching Band Championships.[5]

Joshua L. Torrence

Joshua Torrence was a member of the first White Knoll High School Football team, as an offensive lineman from 2000-2003. Upon his graduation, he enlisted into the United States Marine Corps in 2003 and was assigned to 2nd Assault Amphibian Battalion, 2nd Marine Division, II Marine Expeditionary Force, Camp Lejeune, North Carolina. On March 14, 2005 Lance Corporal Joshua L. Torrence died of wounds received as a result of hostile action in Al Anbar Province, Iraq. He was 20 years old. During construction of the White Knoll football stadium, an effort to name the stadium's field house after LCPL Torrence was started. In order to name the field house after Torrence, the school had to raise $150,000. Fundraising efforts began in the Summer of 2006 and by November 2007, the field house was officially named the LCPL Joshua L. Torrence Field House. The field house contains home and visitor locker rooms, training room, officials locker room, storage, visitor concessions and restrooms.[6]

Opening in August 2007, the White Knoll High School football stadium was opened with much excitement for Timberwolf fans who were tired of sharing a stadium with their crosstown rivals, the Lexington Wildcats. Costing more than $5 million to construct, the "Wolf Den" is home to Timberwolf Football, Men's and Women's Soccer, and Men's Lacrosse.

JCL

White Knoll High is known for their strong Latin program in the World Language Department. The school's Junior Classical League (JCL) chapter won back to back 1st place state overall victories at the annual SCJCL Spring Forum in the 2011 and 2012 season. Each year several WKHS Latin students place in the top three places for Latin academic tests, art contests, athletics competitions, and chariot racing in the entire state of South Carolina. In 2012, WKHS student Serena Stoneberg was elected as the South Carolina JCL Parliamentarian.
