Whale Branch Early College High School (usually called "Whale Branch") is a Title I public high school within the Beaufort County School District, located in Seabrook, South Carolina. The high school serves students in the northernmost portions of Beaufort County, including the unincorporated communities of Dale, Lobeco, Seabrook, and Sheldon. However, students from across Beaufort County may attend the school in order to earn college credit in select courses. The school served 511 students in the 2011-2012 school year.

Opened in 2010, the facility partners with the nearby Technical College of the Lowcountry, enabling students to earn concurrent college credit for several courses while obtaining their high school diploma. Whale Branch currently competes at the Class A level in the South Carolina High School League.

Academics

According to data released by the South Carolina Department of Education, there was insufficient data to assign letter grade for the 2012-2013 school year.[1] The school previously earned a "D" for the 2011-2012 school year.

Because it only opened recently, Whale Branch has not received scores on the Absolute Rating or Growth Rating metrics on its 2012 state report card. In 2012, 90.7% of students passed the state-mandated High School Assessment Program (HSAP). The four-year graduation rate was 81.0%. Based on 2011 financial data, the dollars spent per student was $9,399.

In 2012, the average student-teacher ratio in core subjects was 30.3 students for every 1 teacher. In total, 68.9% of students were enrolled in career/technology courses. Whale Branch is accredited with the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools.[2]
