The Westrail DB class is a class of diesel-electric locomotives built by Clyde Engineering, Rosewater, for the Westrail in 1982/83.
History
The DB class was an evolution of the DA class.[1] The 13 members of the class were fitted with a full width cab, dual braking (air & vacuum) systems and a pressurised body to exclude dust. The original order for ten was extended to thirteen in October 1980. All were named after cities and shires in South West Western Australia.[2]
All were included in the sale of Westrail to Australian Railroad Group in December 2000, with the class redesignated as the 2300 class.[1] In June 2006, all were included in the sale of Australian Railroad Group's Western Australian operation to QR National (renamed Aurizon in 2012). Since 2006, all have been equipped with ZTR engine control equipment and redesignated as DBZ class locomotives.[1][3][4]
