Westfield North County, formerly North County Fair, is a shopping mall in Escondido, California. It is currently owned and operated by Westfield LLC, with JCPenney, Macy's, Nordstrom, Sears and Target as anchors.
History
Westfield North County opened in 1986, anchored by The Broadway, May Company, JCPenney, J. W. Robinson's, Nordstrom and, Sears. In 1993, both the Robinson's and May Company anchors became Robinson's May locations.[2] The Broadway was rebranded as a Macy's in 1996 following the buyout of The Broadway's parent company.
Westfield America, Inc., a precursor to Westfield LLC, acquired its initial interest in the North County Fair in 1994. Westfield acquired the rest in 1998, renaming it "Westfield Shoppingtown North County", dropping the "Shoppingtown" name in June 2005. Locals nearly always refer to it by its original name, however.
In 2006, following Federated Department Stores' merger with May Company, the two Robinson's May locations closed.[3] The former Robinson's location has been subdivided into Forever 21 and H&M With an Old Navy Scheduled to open in Spring 2014, while the former May Company location is now a Target.[4][5]
North County Tavern + Bowl opened on the second level of the mall in December 2010, replacing Oggi’s Pizza & Brewing Co. and three adjacent stores. The 15,000 square foot facility encompasses a 300-seat restaurant, a 30-foot bar, and eight bowling lanes.[6]
In 2012, Westfield announced a $55 million revitalization plan and included renovating the mall's interior, updating the exterior mall entrances, and resurfacing the parking lot by local contractor George W. Weir Asphalt Construction, Inc..[7]
