Westfield Leasing Information[1]

Westfield Carousel is a major Australian shopping centre, owned by the Westfield Group and located in Cannington, a suburb of Perth, Western Australia. As of July 2014, the Westfield Group became two companies Scentre Group and Westfield Corporation. Westfield Carousel is now owned and managed by Scentre Group.[2] It is located approximately 12 kilometres from Perth on the Albany Highway, and approximately 600 metres from Cannington Train Station. From its redevelopment in 1999 to 2014, it had been the largest shopping centre in Western Australia.[3][4]

History and development

Westfield Carousel was built in 1972, and originally contained 58 shops, a hotel, two takeaway food shops, as well as Woolworths supermarket, Boans (later acquired by Myer), Aherns (later acquired by David Jones) and Walsh's.

It incorporated the site of Boans Waverley Waverley, a standalone (and the first suburban) Boans branch, which opened in 1959. It also later incorporated the Waverley Hotel which stood on the corner of Albany Highway and Cecil Road (now Avenue).

Redevelopments

From 1998 to 1999, the centre was extensively redeveloped and its gross lettable area was expanded to about twice its original size. One of the major drawcards added to the centre during this redevelopment was an entertainment precinct known as The Street, open 24 hours a day. This precinct features a number of entertainment stores, book stores, cafes and a Hoyts Cinema.

Transport

The centre is located approximately 600 metres walking distance from the Cannington Interchange. Multiple bus services connect to the shopping centre from the interchange, as well as additional bus services running to and from the city along Albany Highway.
