West Midlands bus route 2 (Coventry) is a bus service in the city of Coventry in the West Midlands region of England.
History
Service 2 had historically operated between Radford and Cheylesmore via the City Centre. In post deregulation years a number of extensions from Radford to Lythalls Lane, Holbrooks and Arena Tesco (Longford) had existed. The Cheylesmore terminus (Exminster Road) is actually in the Stivichall area however buses had never displayed this due to a potential dispute in the spelling used. On 2 April 2006, following a network review the Radford end of the route was withdrawn, partly replaced with service 5, and the Cheylesmore end was extended to Fenside, Fenside is within Stivichall and this destination again eliminates any potential spelling dispute. On 26 February 2012, following another network review, this service was extended from the City Centre to Allesley Park replacing service 23, The route in the Stivichall area was shortened and replaced with a variant route numbered 3 and owing to National Express Coventry's commitment of running evening and Sunday services to the same routes as daytime services an evening and Sunday timetable was reintroduced.
From 1 September 2013, service 2 was shortened to service only City Centre and Fenside, with minor route changes in the Fenside area.
Service 2 now operates in both directions along Charminister Drive, and changes service number at the Fenside terminus, either from a 2 - 3, or vice versa and no longer serves Postbridge Road and Dawlish Drive.
