West Hill School is a secondary academy in Stalybridge, Greater Manchester, England. It was established in 1927.[1]

All pupils wear a school uniform with a top button fastened and a shirt tucked into the waistband. All pupils must call female teachers ma'am and male teachers sir.

In 2012 work started on building a brand new technology block which officially opened in June 2013. It houses a technology room on the ground floor equipped with a laser cutter,two Hegner jigsaws, two Hegner sanding disks, two pillar drills and 12 computers. Upstairs houses the two RE rooms.

The school are also planning on rebuilding the current portocabin block known in the school as the New Block. The new brick building is expected to be completed by December 2015. Work starts on this in Summer 2014.

History

West Hill School was formally a home. Home was owned by one Harrison family which was headed by Thomas Harrison. Thomas had four sons and one of them was named William Harrison. In 1922, William built West Hill and his brother Abel built Highfield House.

Later in the year (1922), West Hill was purchased by the Corporation. On 24th Mar 1927, West Hill Council School (boys only school) was started with ten classrooms.[1]

It became a Specialist Science College in September 2004.[1]

On 1 August 2011, West Hill School officially gained academy status.
