West Coast Relays

Started in 1927, the West Coast Relays grew to one of the premier track and field events in the United States. Held in Fresno's Ratcliffe Stadium, it was the site of thirty-six world records and many national and collegiate records.[1] Participants included Jackie Robinson, O.J. Simpson, Henry Ellard, Willie Gault, and Bill Russell.[2]

Towards the end of its run, the clay track at Ratcliffe Stadium became too outdated and the event was discontinued after the 1982 edition.[1]

On April 3, 2013, Buchanan High School in Clovis, California held a revived West Coast Relays as an annual high school-only track and field meet.[3]
