West Carleton Secondary School is a secondary school situated in the rural west end of Ottawa, Ontario. The school is under the jurisdiction of the Ottawa Carleton District School Board. West Carleton Secondary School opened its doors to students in September 1988. It serves the rural West Carleton Community and more urban Kanata areas such as Morgan's Grant and Shirley's Brook. As a composite school of approximately 1100 students and 60 staff, it offers a full range of program opportunities to is students. With consistently high scores in both Board Wide and Provincial standardized tests, students enjoy a stimulating and challenging academic environment as well as an opportunity to participate in a large variety of optional programs. The school is situated on a large property on Dunrobin Road with access to 107 acres (0.4 km2) of forest, field and wetland and the school incorporates its unique location into its academic program through field trips, outdoor education and the use of its 'outdoor classroom' environment.
Community
Students come from the communities of Morgan's Grant, Constance Bay, Carp, Fitzroy Harbour, Kinburn, Dunrobin, Galetta, Shirleys Bay, Brookside and the area connecting these communities.
Education
A full range of Technology courses, including the new 'Technical Internship Program,' are available. Grade 9 students can choose an Integrated Technology course and students can select one or more of Transportation, Construction, Communication Technology, or Computer Science courses in grades ten to twelve. The school is known to have high averages and scoring in math departments.
Sports
West Carleton has a variety of sports. The school has two gyms, one in which the home basketball team plays, called the "Wolf's Den". Also there are a variety of outdoor fields and facilities, including a football field/rugby pitch, a standard sized soccer field, two mini soccer fields, a baseball diamond, a running track, and a long jump pit. The school takes pride in its athletics with students and teachers rallying behind the competitors and cheering them on. Along with the school teams, there is also a phys-ed program, where students get to learn different sports in a fun environment. In the 2010-2011 season the junior boys basketball team placed 1st place - tier 1 for the first time in the school's history.

- In the 2011-2012 year the West Carleton Varsity Boys Hockey Team was restarted after 3 years of not having a team coached by Mr. Shea, Mr. Killoran and Mr. Fobert. The team was headed straight for the finals but, due to a rule in the constitution, was disqualified from the finals.

Incidents
On October 29, 2007, there was a fire in the school's auto shop. One of the teachers' cars had caught on fire, spreading quickly through different areas of the room. The students of West Carleton were evacuated as firefighters were called. There were no injuries, and firefighters managed to control the blaze and kept it from spreading to other parts of the school. Students returned to school the next day. The auto shop was repaired in time for the second semester of classes.
