West Atlantic Group was formed in 2011 as a holding company for two European cargo airlines, West Air Sweden and Atlantic Airlines (United Kingdom) of the United Kingdom.
Now with its head office in Gothenburg, Sweden, the merged entity is also Europe's largest charter cargo airline and provider of transport for the mail and parcel industry.
West Atlantic have an annual turnover in excess of €100 million and employ some 650 staff to operate a fleet in excess of 50 aircraft. The airline specializes in the transport of mail, dangerous goods and general cargo.
Air Transport Services Group, Inc. announced on 9 Dec 2013 an agreement to acquire a 25 percent equity interest in West Atlantic. This investment will also include the B767-200 type being added into West Atlantic's fleet.[1]
The B767-200 with registration SE-RLA made its first flight on 26 March 2015 and its first commercial flight on the night between 6 and 7 April.
Fleet
The West Atlantic group fleet includes the following aircraft (at January 2014):
- 6 × Boeing 737-300 (operated by Atlantic Airlines)
- 1 x Boeing 737-400 (operated by Atlantic Airlines)
- 4 × Bombardier CRJ200LR (PF) (operated by West Air Sweden
- 41 × BAe ATP (29 operated by West Air Sweden, 12 operated by Atlantic Airlines) whereof 2 of these are equipped with new flightdeck EFIS MOD
- 1 × Boeing 767-200 (operated by West Air Sweden)[2]
