Wellington Street bus station was a Transperth bus station located next to the Perth railway station in Western Australia. Originally known as Perth Central bus station, it was opened on 2 March 1973 by Premier John Tonkin. After just over 40 years of service, the majority of bus services were moved to the Roe Street bus station on 12 January 2014.[1] The Wellington Street bus station remained in use for a further two weeks due to roadworks in the central business district, temporarily servicing Beaufort Street bus services, and was shut down on 27 January 2014 and demolished soon after. The station will be replaced by a new underground facility on the same site. To cater for the remaining bus services during the construction period, a temporary replacement Wellington Street Bus Station opened on 6 July 2014, occupying some of the original site.[2] This closed on 1 February 2015.[3]

Replacement
As part of the Perth City Link project, the station will be replaced with a A$249m underground facility at the same location. Design of the new underground facility has been awarded to Woodhead Architects in a joint venture with DP Architects (from Singapore) and Arkkitehtitoimisto Davidsson & Tarkela Oy (from Finland). Construction is scheduled to commence in 2014 with completion in 2016.[4] While the new bus station is being constructed, a temporary bus station on Roe Street began operating on 12 January 2014, taking over many of the routes from the now defunct station.[5][1]
Temporary Wellington Street bus station
On 6 July 2014, a temporary Wellington Street bus station opened for bus services going to the south of Perth, which were not accommodated at the Roe Street facility (since it is on the other side of the Perth City Link building site) and had terminated at Esplanade Busport since the closure of the original station. Now that the temporary bus station has been closed, these services once again terminate at the Esplanade Busport. Here are the bus routes that stopped at the temporary Wellington Street bus station at the time of its closure:
