Wellington School, Bebington

Wellington School was a small private school in Wellington Road, Bebington, Wirral, England. Founded and for many decades run by its first headmaster, J.P. Fogg, Wellington School became a prominent institution in the 1960s, '70s and '80s, with an academic and sporting record that created a wide catchment area.

The school was founded by J.P. Fogg, whose educational philosophy was that "given the right environment, a boy will seek to emulate the good example of those who strive to guide him".

Wellington admitted boys only until September 1986, becoming co-educational under the leadership of its second headmaster, Mr Kirch, who subsequently went on to become Headmaster and owner of Avalon School, West Kirby. Mr Kirch held the post of Headmaster at Wellington until December 1990. During his tenure the school was sold to Nord Anglia Education PLc in the Summer of 1987.

In January 1991, Wellington's third Headmaster, Mr Capper the long standing Arts Master and Deputy Head took up post. Mr Capper retired during the 1992/1993 school year due to ill health. During much of this time, the school was run under the leadership of Dr Brian Scott, the then Deputy Head who went on to become Wellington's forth and final Headmaster until close in the summer of 1995. When the school closed Dr Scott went on to become Headmaster of Avalon School, West Kirby, until his retirement in the summer of 2009.

The school's motto was Honor Praemium Virtutis (Honour is the First Virtue).

After a campaign by some teaching staff and parents to keep the school open the school was closed in the summer of 1995 and the site was sold to developers. It is now a housing estate.
