Global

The chain has moved into the global market place, opening a coffeehouse at the Oriental Plaza in Beijing, China,[1] and had 100 shops open in 10 countries by August 2010.[2] Kenneth Hermansson, CEO for the China region said "Starbucks provides fast-food coffee, while we put more effort in brewing coffee, so it tastes much better. You can call it high-quality coffee."[3] He said that the plan was to open more coffeehouses in Beijing with the next one opening in the Silk Market of Beijing.[3] Hermansson also said that 80% of their current customers were Chinese.

The company also opened a second coffeehouse in Saudi-Arabia at the Panorama Mall in Riyadh.[2] The opening event was hosted by the Swedish ambassador to Saudi Arabia, Jan Thesleff. He commented, "Saudi Arabia is the biggest market in the region" with the franchise market expected to grow by 27% per annum.[2]
