Ronnie Owens Field
In November 2009 there was a shooting in a Parkland coffee shop resulting in the deaths of four Lakewood Police officers, including officer Ron (Ronnie) Owens, a Washington High School alumnus. An honorable assembly was held at the Patriot Dome. At the assembly, videos and pictures of him during high school were shown off of a projector and Ronnie Owens' sister [Ronda LeFrancois] spoke, thanking the school. She said "I have never been so proud to be a Washington Patriot." The school raised $1,000 to donate to his family. The JROTC gave Ronnie Owens' wife an American flag that was flown over the Lakewood Police Department, and his daughter was given Patriot Pride Gear [Washington High School Patriots; school symbol]. The baseball field, where Ronnie Owens played baseball for Washington High School, was renamed 'Ronnie Owens Field'. Now Washington High School Patriots proudly wear baseball caps with Ronnie Owens' initials on the side. His baseball and basketball uniform numbers were retired, and are now displayed in the trophy case next to the Patriot Dome.
