Walter Strother Davis[1] (August 9, 1905 – October 1979) was the eighth head football coach for the Tennessee State University Tigers, located in Nashville, Tennessee and he held that position for four seasons, from 1933 until 1936, later becoming president of the school from 1943 to 1968.[2] His career coaching record at Tennessee State was 19 wins, 7 losses, and 4 ties. As of the conclusion of the 2007 season, this ranks him eighth at Tennessee State in total wins and fifth at Tennessee State in winning percentage (.700).[3]

He died at a Nashville hospital in 1979 of a long illness.[4]
