Wadsworth High School is a 9-12 public high school in Wadsworth, Ohio. It is the only high school in the Wadsworth City Schools district. The school colors are officially red and white. The school mascot is the grizzley bear, and the sports teams are nicknamed the Grizzlies. The school's fight song is not Ohio State University's Buckeye battlecry, but an adapted version.

History

In 2012, Wadsworth City Schools demolished the old high school and moved into a new high school. The new Wadsworth High School connects to the new Wadsworth YMCA and community center. The new high school opened its doors in the fall of 2012. The school colors are officially red and white. The school mascot is the grizzly bear, and the sports teams are nicknamed the Grizzlies. The school's fight song is not Ohio State University's Buckeye battlecry, but an adapted version.

Academics

At Wadsworth High School, students have the opportunity to take Advanced Placement course work and exams. The AP participation rate at Wadsworth High School is 13 percent. The Wadsworth City School District was rated "excellent with distinction" for the 2011-12 school year by the Ohio Department of Education. That was the tenth year in a row that Wadsworth City School District hae attained the highest possible rating for an Ohio school district on the state report card. Wadsworth City earned a perfect 26 for 26 on the indicators. Ohio Education test results place Wadsworth City Schools 1st in the county, 5th in the region, and 36th in Ohio. Since 2012, Wadsworth High School has been given the rating of bronze by the U.S. News & World Report. The rating is based upon AP test scores for seniors, OGT scores, math and reading proficiency, and college readiness factors.
