WJGL (96.9 FM) is a radio station broadcasting a Classic Hits format. Licensed to Jacksonville, Florida, USA, the station serves the Jacksonville area. The station is currently owned by Cox Media Group.[1] The station's studios are located in Jacksonville's Southside section, and the transmitter is in the Arlington section.

History

The station had The WPDQ call letters until 1975, then WAIV FM 97, with an AOR format until August 1978. On January 1, 1990, the station changed its call sign to WKQL, and carried an oldies format as "Cool 96.9." In January 2005, the station flipped to a classic hits format (similar to WXGL down in Tampa, heavily based on 1970s rock, with some 1980s songs and a few 1960s songs.][2]

By 2012, following the flip of Clear Channel Communications' WJGH from classic hits to adult hits, WJGL became the market's only classic hits station.
