WIQO-FM (100.9 FM) is a Talk formatted broadcast radio station licensed to Forest, Virginia, serving Bedford and Lynchburg in Virginia. WIQO is owned and operated by Gary Burns' 3 Daughters Media, Inc..[1]
Lynchburg's Talk Station
On September 30, 2013, 3 Daughter's Media CEO Gary Burns purchased WIQO-FM and created Lynchburg's Talk Station. Upon purchase, Burns brought on the former WLNI Morning Line hosts Mari White and Brian Weigand along with the local sports show the Sportsline with Rich Roth. WIQO-FM is affiliated with CBS for news updates and the local CBS television station, WDBJ, provides weather forecasting. The station's lineup includes Laura Ingraham, Herman Cain, Clark Howard, Loveline and Lars Larson.
Application to move
In January 2007, Todd P. Robinson, Inc. applied for a construction permit to move WIQO-FM to Forest, Virginia (just outside of Lynchburg) and transmit from Rocky Mountain, the same location as WYYD. On January 23, 2012, WIQO-FM was approved to begin broadcasting from Forest, Virginia. On the same date, translator station W278BF, broadcasting at 103.5 FM from between Covington and Clifton Forge, began simulcasting WIQO-FM for Alleghany County, Virginia listeners. On June 4, 2012, WKEY took over the simulcast for W278BF.
History synopsis
On June 5, 2012, WIQO-FM began simulcasting sister station WKHF. On November 8, 2012, WIQO-FM split from the simulcast, switching to a Classic Rock format with the branding "100.9 Rocks". By December, the station began simulcasting WZZU-FM 97.9 "The Planet" with the same format.
