WGH-FM is a Country formatted broadcast radio station licensed to Newport News, Virginia, serving Hampton Roads. WGH-FM is owned and operated by Max Media.[1]
History
WGH-FM signed on in 1948, simulcasting the AM signal until 1957, when it began its own mix of easy listening music and programming. Meanwhile, WGH-FM flipped to classical music in 1970, becoming a nationally recognized leader in the format.
A new owner instituted changed the call letters of both WGH-AM and -FM to WNSY in 1983 and instituted a soft rock format. Another owner restored the WGH call letters to the AM signal in 1985. The AM station flipped formats to oldies and country until 1986 when it began simulcasting WGH-FM’s Top 40 format. WGH-FM flipped to its current country format in 1990.[2]
