WEWN is the shortwave radio outlet of the Eternal Word Television Network, a large Catholic international broadcaster. It was launched by Mother Angelica on December 28, 1992.[1] The station broadcasts from the city of Irondale, Alabama, on the outskirts of Birmingham with a high transmitter power of 500 kilowatts. There are 4 transmitters of 500kW each. The station currently transmits English programming to Africa, South East Asia, the Middle East and Europe. The station currently transmits Spanish programming to South America, the Caribbean, Mexico and Central America.[2] Programming is similar to that of the network's television channel.
On March 30, 2008, EWTN ceased all Shortwave transmissions to North America and expanded its English language coverage of WEWN to India, the Middle East and Southeast Asia. Spanish Language coverage was also expanded to Cuba, South America, Mexico and the Caribbean.[3] Previously WEWN only broadcast to North America, Latin America, Africa and Europe.[4]

- Spanish to Mexico and Central America: 5810 kHz from 0000 to 0500 UTC; 7555 kHz from 0500 to 1300 UTC; 11550 kHz from 1300 to 1800 UTC; 12050 kHz from 1800 to 0000 UTC.
