The WAGR ADE class (also known as the Governor class) was a six member class of diesel railcars, operated between 1937 and 1962 by the Western Australian Government Railways (WAGR). In 1939-40, shortly after the ADEs entered service, the WAGR's Midland Workshops purpose-built the six member ADT class of trailer cars to run together with the ADEs as a two car set.[1]
Each member of the ADE class was named after a former Governor of Western Australia. The ADE class leader, ADE 446 Governor Stirling, was the first diesel-electric rail vehicle to enter service in Australia.[1]
The last was withdrawn in April 1962. Only ADT 9 survives. It was used as an office at the Mary Springs lead mine off the North West Coastal Highway, north of the Murchison River. In 2002, it was sold and moved to a farm in Northampton. On 27 October 2014, it was relocated to the former Northampton railway station.[2]
