Vukašin Radomir Poleksić (Cyrillic: Bукaшин Пoлeкcић, born 30 August 1982) is a Montenegrin football goalkeeper. He plays for Debreceni VSC.
Biography
He was born in Nikšić, Montenegro, SFR Yugoslavia.
Global Ban
On 24 June 2010 he was banned from all football activities until 30 June 2012 for failing to report an attempted match fixing. Investigations showed these attempts failed, and the offers had been rejected by Poleksić,[1] however UEFA rules state all players and officials must report any match fixing attempt.[2] On 5 May 2011 the Court of Arbitration for Sport rejected the appeal and upheld UEFA decision.[3]
International career
He played, in 2002, one match for Yugoslavia, before continuing his international career for the newly formed Montenegro from 2007 onwards. He has picked up over 20 caps for his country and has achieved some embarrassing and impressive feats.
In October 2013, in the penaltimate match in 2014 FIFA World Cup Qualification, Poleksić conceded four goals to England in a harsh 4-1 defeat at Wembley. This was a match that Montenegro needed to win. One of those goals was a quietly comical own goal 'scored' by midfielder Branko Bošković. Despite a huge attempt to stop it, the scuff travelled over eght yards into the corner of the net to put England into a 2-0 lead.
Five days on, and again he was the chosen goalkeeper to play in their final qualifier, a home match against Moldova. Mladen Božović was nursing an injury that ment second-choice Poleksić would be the long term number 1 until Božović was fit to return.
The match was considered the final blow to Montenegro's end-of-campaign crumble (they lead the group on even matches in the first half of quaification, but picked up very few points later on, slipping from first place down to third).
Poleksić conceded five goals to an unlikely rampant Moldova as the match ended 5-2. The match would have been Moldova's biggest ever competitive away win, had Stevan Jovetić not scored Montenegro's second in stoppage time.
During May 2014, when all 'World Cup' teams were playing their final friendly matches before the tournament, Montenegro played against a weakened Slovakia side (without Marek Hamšík and Martin Škrtel). Slovakia triumphed 2-0 at home, though there was a positive note for Poleksić. Slovakia were awarded a penalty in the late first-half. Vladimir Weiss stepped up from midfield though Poleksić saved well. Sadly Weiss had plenty of time to convert the rebound and still scored at the second attempt.
