Vondelpark are an English indie pop group, formed in 2010 in London, England. The band consists of Lewis Rainsbury, Alex Bailey and Matt Lawrenson.[1] The band is named after the public park of the same name.[2]
After signing to R&S Records, the band released their first EP, Sauna in 2010.[2] The band's second EP, NYC Stuff And NYC Bags was released in 2011.[3] This was followed by their third release, Dracula EP in 2012.[4] The band's debut album, Seabed, was released on April 1, 2013.[5][6][7]
Musical style
The band's music includes elements from various genres such as indie pop,[8] dream pop,[6] contemporary R&B,[1][2][3][8] ambient,[5] synthpop,[3] soft rock,[6] dubstep,[2] and UK bass.[1][8] The band draw inspiration from various musical acts such as Motown artists,[9] Robert Glasper,[9] Arthur Russell, Barry White, Herbie Hancock, and Dexter Wansel.[1] The band was also compared to numerous alternative and R&B acts, such as My Bloody Valentine,[1][9] The xx,[3][10] New Order,[2] The Cure,[2] Ariel Pink,[2] Drake[8] and The Weeknd.[2] The band described their musical style as "Radiohead quietstorm."[8]
