The 1984 Women's Olympic Volleyball Tournament was the 6th edition of the event, organized by the world's governing body, the FIVB in conjunction with the IOC. It was held in Long Beach, California, United States from July 20 to August 9, 1984.

* Soviet Union, Cuba and East Germany withdrew from the tournament because of the Soviet-led boycott. They were replaced by  West Germany,  South Korea and  Canada.

** An African team was invited to participate in this edition, since there was no Women's African Championship at the time and no African team showed interest, the final berth was given to  Brazil as Wild Card.[1]
