The Vinod Gupta school of Management, IIT Kharagpur (VGSoM) is a public business school located in Kharagpur, West Bengal, India. It was the first business school to be established in an IIT. It is consistently ranked as one of the best business schools in India and the Asia-Pacific region.

History

Vinod Gupta School of Management (VGSoM), Indian Institute of Technology, Kharagpur was established in 1993. The Vinod Gupta School of Management was set up as the first school of management within the IIT system.^[1]

Ranking

VGSOM was ranked 15th in Best B-School survey of 2015 by career360.^[2]

Accreditation

VGSoM is accredited by AICTE.

Recognition

• VGSoM was awarded the 18th Business School Affaire and Dewang Mehta Business School award for its outstanding contribution to higher education in India.^[3]

Facilities and infrastructure

Library

Students have access to the school's library and the Institute's Central Library, which is one of the largest libraries in Asia.These two, between them, offer a collection of about 365,000 books, 1,500 journals, 1,700 CDs and videos and 44 national and international scholarly databases.All hostel rooms have internet nodes that connect to a 100 Mbps LAN.The school's own computer laboratory is equipped with hardware and software systems.

Hostel

VGSoM provides on-campus residential accommodation facility to all its students. The halls are not exclusively for VGSoM students but are shared with IIT, Kharagpur students from other courses. Hostels are provided for both boys and girls. All the hostels are provided with internet connectivity in each room for which the students have to pay a nominal but compulsory charge.^[4]

Events at VGSoM

Purvodaya- The annual business fest of VGSoM.

Kalakaar Vikas - This event is a being organized by Vinod Gupta School of Management, IIT Kharagpur in the third week of March. The aim of the event is to bring together Corporates and NGO’s on a common platform to ensure inclusive growth and inculcate a culture of “Giving back to the society” in the youth.

MADison Avenue - MADison Avenue is the flagship event of MAD (Marketing and Advertising) Club of Vinod Gupta School of Management. It is a unique event bringing some of the best minds of the country to a common platform and aims at delivering quality solutions to real time business problems.

Eclairez - It is a Social Entrepreneurship Challenge aimed towards those individuals who have the gumption to empower those at the bottom of the pyramid, as well as earn profits for themselves while doing so. This competition aims at the amalgamation of students, NGOs, incubators, social entrepreneurs, venture-capitalists and corporations to develop and encourage the spirit of Social entrepreneurship.

Springfest - It is the annual cultural fest of IIT Kharagpur. It attracts the students from all over the country as well as foreign participants. The four-day fest includes a host of activities ranging from Rangamanch- the dramatics competition, Centrifuge- the choreography competition, Wildfire- the popular Western band competition, Sargam- the eastern band competition, Parliamentary Debate, Kharagshetra- the personality contest.

Kshitij - It is the annual techno-management festival of IIT-Kharagpur. The fest basically concentrates on encouraging new technologies, conducting workshops, guest lectures by famous educationalists and technocrats over the world.
