Vineyard Power Co-operative
Vineyard Power Co-operative is "a community owned renewable energy co-operative based on the island of Martha's Vineyard, Massachusetts."[1] [2]
Vineyard Power plans to assist the island of Martha's Vineyard to meet the energy goals of the Island Plan.[3]
Wind Power
The National Renewable Energy Lab (NREL) classifies the sound and ocean around Martha's Vineyard to be "Excellent" (between 7.5 and 8 meters per second (m/s) in regard to energy generation potential, at 50 meters altitude) or "Outstanding" (between 8.0 and 8.8 m/s).[4]
Vineyard Power planning a wind farm off its southern shores,[5] with OffshoreMW, and Bureau of Ocean Energy Management, Regulation and Enforcement (BOEMRE). This collaboration is the Martha's Vineyard Offshore Wind Alliance (MVOWA).[6]
Solar Power
Town of Aquinnah chose the company, after an RFP, for a solar plant.[7] Construction has started.[8]
