Biography

Early life

He was born on 23 February 1977 in Perth, Western Australia. His father, Nick Catania, is the former state Labor politician and former Mayor of the Town of Vincent.

Career

He was first elected to the Legislative Council at the 2005 state election, to represent the Mining and Pastoral region. He switched to run for the Legislative Assembly at the 2008 state election following the retirement of Speaker Fred Riebeling, and was duly elected to the seat of North West.

He sat in the Western Australian Legislative Council from 2005 to 2008 and has been a member of the Western Australian Legislative Assembly since 2008. He represented the Australian Labor Party until defecting to the WA Nationals on 20 July 2009,[1][2] citing his belief that Labor had become too "city-centric".
